La Porte des Indes (close to Marble Arch)

La Porte des Indes‘La Porte des Indes’ is about the Legacy of France in Indian regional Cuisine. If you are open to this combination you are likely to enjoy it, if you are on the hunt for authentic Indian food this might not be the place for you. The place is quite huge and requires a large group of people to run it every day. The deco is tacky and overwhelming at the same time. If you come too early, go downstairs to the ‘Jungle Bar’  which is surrounded by animal paintings. You will be able to throw your peanuts shells on the floor.

I decided to go for the Indian-French dishes and ordered ‘Salad du Métis’ (A salad of mixed leaves, tomatoes, mushrooms, banana flower and strips of chicken breast in a tamarind dressing) and ‘Poulet Rouge’-Shredded chicken marinated in yoghurt and red spices, grilled and served in a creamy sauce. Both dishes were very tasty and fresh. The Naan bread was exceptional and worth trying. The service is a bit pushy at times. We were asked if we want to order about 3 times although after this it was all very nice and relaxed. The price for a starter, main dish and one drink was around £25 which is not cheap but worth it overall.
